mxORB

mxORB can be deployed in two different ways, either directly on your Exchange Server system, or on a separate IIS SMTP mail relay system.

Exchange Server Deployment

Deploying on your Exchange Server system is the easiest way to use mxORB. Simply run the setup program, configure filtering options and say goodbye to spam! This method of deployment is illustrated below.

The system requirements for this method of deployment are as follows:

• Windows 2000 Professional, Server or Advanced Server
• or Windows Server 2003 (all editions)
• Exchange Server 2000 Standard or Enterprise Edition
• or Exchange Server 2003 Standard or Enterprise Edition

IIS SMTP Relay Deployment

If you do not use Microsoft Exchange for 2000 or 2003 as your mail server, or you wish to separate your spam filtering from your mail server, mxORB can be deployed on a separate IIS SMTP relay system. Advantages of this deployment method are:

• you can use mxORB to protect a wider range of mail servers including Exchange 4.0, 5.0 and 5.5, Lotus Notes, sendmail, etc.
• you can separate your mail filtering from your mail storage servers, the server where mxORB is deployed does not have to be dedicated purely to mxORB, and can also be used to perform virus filtering with a 3rd party mail scanner or to append disclaimers to outgoing messages using mxClaim
• additional fault tolerance as mail will still be received by the mxORB server even if your primary mail server is unavailable
• additional security as your primary mail server can be placed behind a firewall and only the mxORB server will need to be publicly available

The system requirements for this method of deployment are as follows:

• Windows 2000 Professional, Server or Advanced Server with the IIS 5.0 SMTP Service
• or Windows Server 2003 (all editions) with the IIS 6.0 SMTP Service
• or Windows XP Professional with the IIS 5.1 SMTP Service
