mxORB

mxORB 2.2.x updates now available

Two updates for mxORB 2.2.x are now available for download providing enhancements to the spamware plugin filter and attachment filter. Note: These updates can only be applied to mxORB 2.2, 2.2.1, 2.2.2 and 2.2.3 installations. If you are using an older version of mxORB you must upgrade before installing these updates.

Attachment filter content type update

This update adds two new content types to the mxORB attachment filter:

• application/x-msdos-program
• application/x-msdownload

These content types are increasingly being used for virus attachments and it is recommended that you enable filtering of these content types after installing this update.

To install the update follow the steps below. Note that the upgrade will not involve any downtime for your mail server nor will it require a reboot.

1. Log-on as Administrator on the server where mxORB is installed
2. Download the content filter update setup program here
3. Ensure the mxORB configuration tool is not running
4. Run the setup program downloaded in step 2 and follow the on-screen prompts

Spamware plugin filter update

This update upgrades the mxORB Spamware Plugin to version 1.1 which includes a number of new Message-ID and X-Mailer header filters. Enabling these filters can significantly reduce spam however they may also filter legitimate messages (from our own testing only 1% - 2% of messages processed are incorrectly filtered).

To install the update follow the steps below. Note that the upgrade will involve a short period of downtime for your mail server and may possibly require a reboot.

1. Log-on as Administrator on the server where mxORB is installed
2. Download the spamware plugin filter update setup program here
3. Stop the SMTP service (see [faq] How do I stop the SMTP service? for more information)
4. Ensure the mxORB configuration tool is not running
5. Run the setup program downloaded in step 2 and follow the on-screen prompts
6. Allow the setup program to restart your server if necessary
7. Start the SMTP service (see [faq] How do I start the SMTP service? for more information)
