mxORB 2.3 available now!
mxORB 2.3 is now available for download here. It is strongly recommended that all existing mxORB users update their installation as soon as possible.
Important: it is recommended that you create a backup of your settings using the Export Settings Wizard before performing the update.
Upgrading from mxORB 2.2 to 2.3
To update mxORB 2.2 to 2.3 follow the steps below. Note that the upgrade will involve a short period of downtime for your mail server and may possibly require a reboot.
- Log-on as Administrator on the server where mxORB is installed
- Download the mxORB 2.3 update (mxORBUpdate23.exe) setup program here
- Stop the SMTP service (see [faq] How do I stop the SMTP service? for more information)
- Ensure the mxORB configuration tool is not running
- Run the setup program downloaded in step 1 and follow the on-screen prompts
- Allow the setup program to restart your server if necessary
- Start the SMTP service (see [faq] How do I start the SMTP service? for more information)
mxORB 2.3 should then be installed on your system. To verify, check the version number on the About tab of the configuration tool.
Upgrading from mxORB 2.0 or 2.1 to 2.3
It is not possible to update from mxORB 2.0 or 2.1 to 2.3 directly, you must first update from mxORB 2.0 to mxORB 2.1 and then from mxORB 2.1 to 2.2. To update mxORB 2.0 to 2.1, then to 2.2 follow the steps below. Note that the upgrade will involve a short period of downtime for your mail server and may possibly require a reboot.
- Log-on as Administrator on the server where mxORB is installed
- Download the mxORB 2.1 (mxORBUpdate21.exe) setup program and mxORB 2.2 (mxORBUpdate22.exe) updates here (note: the mxORB 2.1 update is only required if you are currently using mxORB 2.0)
- Stop the SMTP service (see [faq] How do I stop the SMTP service? for more information)
- Ensure the mxORB configuration tool is not running
- Run the mxORB 2.1 update downloaded in step 1 and follow the on-screen prompts (only if your current version is mxORB 2.0)
- Allow the setup program to restart your server if necessary
- Run the mxORB 2.2 update downloaded in step 1 and follow the on-screen prompts
- Allow the setup program to restart your server if necessary
- Follow the instructions for updating mxORB 2.2 to 2.3 above
What's New in mxORB 2.3?
The following additions, modifications and fixes have been made for this release of mxORB.
- Added MIME header checking to the sender and recipient email address whitelist and blacklist
- Added progress information to the Import and Export Settings wizards
- Optimised loading of filter settings to reduce processing time
- Fixed incorrect import of Match All Recipients blacklist setting
- Fixed incorrect encoding of special characters in exported settings file
In addition this version includes the most recent versions of the spamware and virus plugin filters.

Also available for download is an XML file containing all new blacklist, content and attachment filter settings since the release of mxORB 2.2 in July 2004. These settings were previously made available as the following updates:

Follow the instructions below to use this update. Note: this update is not required if you have performed a new mxORB 2.3 installation, as all of these settings are included. Only upgrades from previous mxORB versions require this update.
- Download the settings XML file mxORBFilterUpdate0409006.xml
- Open the Configuration tool
- Double click on the Import Settings Wizard
- Click Next to move to the Import File Location and Options page of the wizard
- Select the file downloaded in step 1 and select Merge mode (selecting a different mode will result in your Action settings being overwritten)
- Click Next, and ensure that all items are checked on the Import Settings page
- Click Next and then click Finish to import the settings
Note: these settings are only for use with mxORB 2.3 or higher.
